Lawson Shadburn is the Chief Financial Officer of Lambda Legal, the oldest and largest national legal organization committed to achieving full recognition of the civil rights of lesbians, gay men, bisexuals, transgender people and people with HIV. As the CFO, Lawson oversees financial operations, budgeting, and risk management and works closely with the Administration & Finance, Investment Management and Auditing Committees of the Board of Directors.

Lawson is an experienced nonprofit financial executive, having served in leadership positions for diverse and innovative nonprofits for over 20 years. Most recently, he was COO for National Organization on Disability, as it launched a non-profit consulting practice to assist major employers in increasing hiring of people with disabilities. Previously, he was Chief Financial and Administrative Officer and then COO at Turnaround for Children as it developed its program and expanded to three cities to help high-poverty public schools systematically mitigate the impact of poverty’s traumatic stress on students. He was also CFO at Independence Care System, as it implemented a new model of Medicaid managed long-term care for low-income adults with severe disabilities. 

Earlier in his career, Lawson directed programs to finance and build community health centers, affordable housing and community economic development projects in low-income communities across the country.

Lawson holds an M.B.A. in accounting from Columbia University Graduate School of Business and an A.B. in Cultural Anthropology from Brown University.
