Lisa Hardaway is the Deputy Director of Education and Public Affairs - Communications for Lambda Legal, the oldest and largest national legal organization committed to achieving full recognition of the civil rights of lesbians, gay men, bisexuals, transgender people and people with HIV. She is responsible for leading and managing Lambda Legal’s news media relations, digital communications, creation of educational resources and publications, and marketing.  She also serves as a member of Lambda Legal’s Senior Management Team..

Since joining Lambda Legal in 2003, Hardaway has handled media and communications for a broad range of litigation and education work including cases such as Lawrence v. Texas, Lambda Legal’s landmark case in which the U.S. Supreme Court struck down all remaining state sodomy laws; Glenn v. Brumby, a historic transgender workplace discrimination case; and Langbehn v. Jackson Memorial, which resulted in President Obama directing the creation of new rules regarding hospital visitation for same-sex couples.

Hardaway also led Lambda Legal’s integrated communications work related to the historic U.S. Supreme Court decision striking down Section 3 of the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) and all of the marriage litigation cases brought by or co-counseled by Lambda Legal including cases in New York, Washington, California, New Jersey and Illinois. In 2009, Hardaway led the media work for the marriage victory in Iowa, Varnum v. Brien

Under Hardaway’s leadership, Lambda Legal has expanded its reach through digital and multimedia communications and the creative use of social media platforms. 

Prior to joining Lambda Legal, Hardaway was the Media and Outreach Director for the Center for Rural Affairs, a family farm and rural advocacy organization based in Nebraska.

Hardaway graduated from Wayne State College in 1995 with a B.S.E. and 1998 with an M.S.E.
